Your Ballot, Your Choices: Understanding How to Vote for Delta’s Next Council

Image
DREAM Delta voter information release With Delta’s municipal election approaching on October 17, DREAM Delta is sharing a simple message: understand your options before marking your ballot. Our accompanying graphic explains how your council votes can affect the outcome. It does not tell you whom to support. DREAM Delta does not support, oppose, or endorse any candidate, party, or slate. Our goal is to help residents make informed choices and clear up some common misconceptions. One choice for mayor. Up to six choices for council. You can vote for one mayoral candidate and up to six council candidates. The six council candidates receiving the most votes will win the six seats. The words “up to” matter. Six is the maximum number of council candidates you can support. It is not a requirement. You can choose one, two, three, four, five, or six council candidates. Choosing fewer than six does not invalidate your council vote. Your council choices do not have to match yo...

Following the tremendous response to our 2026 Mayoral Candidate Job Interview , DREAM Delta is expanding the initiative to include the candidates seeking election to Delta City Council . All City Council candidates are being invited to participate in the DREAM Delta 2026 City Council Candidate Job Interview , using the same basic idea that guided our Mayoral initiative: Give every candidate the same opportunity. Ask every candidate the same questions. Present their answers in their own words. Let voters decide for themselves. The response to our Mayoral Candidate Job Interview demonstrated that Delta residents are interested in learning more about the people asking for their vote. To date, the three Mayoral Candidate profiles have generated nearly 1,400 combined views on the DREAM Delta Blog , along with considerable engagement through Facebook. We've also received numerous requests from residents asking for copies of the profiles that they can print and share. So, we'r...

Image
Question #4 on protecting and expanding green space :  Will YOUR ideal candidate answer YES or NO? We are putting 2026 local election candidates on the spot by asking each individual candidate six direct questions Delta residents want answered.  See our attached list of questions .  Starting June 20 th , we will reveal how each candidate answers. About Question #4: Did you know the City of Delta has no substantive plan for establishing new and meaningful green space for its growing population, ensuring residents always have decent levels of access to parks and natural outdoor areas?    These are vital to the health and wellbeing of residents. With ever-increasing densification and the ongoing removal of established evergreens to clear land for development, the current tree replacement bylaw means the existing tree canopy will continue to decline, negatively impacting Delta’s human and natural environments. No matter how you feel about environmental ini...
