DREAM Delta Statement on Governance and Transparency During the 2026 Municipal Election

Our Commitment to Transparency

As the 2026 municipal election approaches, DREAM Delta remains committed to operating as an independent, issue-based civic advocacy organization dedicated to responsible development, ethical governance, affordability, and increasing civic engagement throughout Delta.

From its inception, DREAM Delta has maintained a clear distinction between advocating for public policy issues and participating in election campaigns. We do not endorse or oppose candidates, political parties, or elector organizations. Our focus remains on informing residents, encouraging thoughtful discussion, and helping increase voter participation.

Recently, two members of our four-person Steering Committee, Kristin Roberts and Marilyn Murray, advised that they have chosen to become actively involved in campaigning for one of the elector organizations participating in the October 17, 2026 municipal election. Both Kristin and Marilyn have voluntarily decided to step away from the day-to-day decision-making and operational activities of DREAM Delta for the duration of the election period.

We want to emphasize that this decision is entirely voluntary.

Neither Elections BC's election financing legislation nor our own internal Code of Conduct requires this step. British Columbia's election rules recognize the distinction between an individual's personal political activities and the activities of an independent civic organization. Individuals remain free to volunteer for campaigns, express political opinions, support candidates, and participate in the democratic process, provided those activities remain separate from the organization and organizational resources are not used to support election campaigns.

Similarly, DREAM Delta's Code of Conduct recognizes that members retain their full democratic rights as private citizens while requiring that any personal political activities remain clearly separate from DREAM Delta's work.

Kristin and Marilyn felt that, despite these safeguards, temporarily stepping aside represented the most responsible course of action. Their decision removes any possibility that DREAM Delta's activities could be perceived as being influenced by campaign involvement or that their campaign activities could be interpreted as reflecting the organization's position. While no legal conflict exists, they wished to eliminate even the appearance of a conflict of interest and reinforce the clear separation between their personal political activities and DREAM Delta's advocacy.

We believe this demonstrates the principles that have guided DREAM Delta since its formation: integrity, accountability, and transparency. Public confidence is built not only by complying with the law, but by holding ourselves to a higher standard where appropriate.

During the election period, DREAM Delta will continue to operate in accordance with its established governance practices and our Code of Conduct. Our work will remain focused on public policy, civic education, responsible development, ethical governance, affordability, and encouraging informed participation in the democratic process.

We wish Kristin and Marilyn well in exercising their democratic rights as private citizens, and we look forward to welcoming them back to active participation in DREAM Delta following the conclusion of the municipal election as we work to hold our new council accountable to voters and residents of Delta.

Thank you for your continued support and confidence in DREAM Delta. We remain committed to earning that trust through openness, fairness, and complete transparency in everything we do.

DREAM Delta is an independent, issue-based civic advocacy organization. We do not endorse or oppose candidates, elector organizations, or political parties. Our focus remains on responsible development, ethical governance, affordability, civic engagement, and encouraging informed participation in local democracy.
